3 Kootenay Poems
CONJOINED
one glacier
reaches into the sky
the other
into the lake
when i turn away
they switch places
THE PASS
mountain goats watch me
drive along the precipice
fingers tight
on the steering wheel
my stereo leaks
out window cracked
for mountain air
neil diamond
they say
last year it was john cale
guy’s going downhill
DATING SERVICE
the woodpecker
on my cabin’s metal roof
has got a brand new bag

with or without rick ruben...neil diamond, stu...how could you? i cranked up "natty dread" and motored thru snow capped mountains and freaky hoodoos, deep blue glaciers and tourquise lakes on a completely majestic day...kimberley, golden, salmon arm, kamloops, rodgers pass, hope...it's a grade A wow highway drive i can't recommend enough. at one point, world class passenger bill bissett turned to me and said, "this is way better than ontario, isn't it?" had me in stitches most of the way. btw: xcellent pomes.
